Shari Polis came in to all Kindergarten-5th grade PE classes this month to teach dance as part of Fitness February. Shari taught a hip hop dance mix, “Basketball,” to the school. Ask your kids to show you the hip hop moves they learned in dance (“top rocks,” “six step”)! Everyone performed the dance at the talent show earlier this month. Both videos shown are of one of the third grade classes during their class.
It was a fun week of dance in PE! A big thank you Shari and to Mr. B, who especially loved the dance as basketball is his favorite sport!
The 4th Grade Girl Scout Juniors are gathering donations for Project Valentine to make care packages that will be distributed to local (great Denver area) patients with cancer receiving treatment on Valentine’s Day. The donations go to men, women and children. Thank you for your compassion!

The 2018 Foothill Talent Show is scheduled for February 9th from 12:45-2:30 p.m. The show will be for all grades and is a wonderful way for your child to display their talent. In years past we’ve had singing, dancing, piano, violin, comedy, and magic. We're excited to see the acts for this year's show!

A great big thank you to this year's co-chairs, Tara Closky, Shari Polis and Amy Stewart McIntosh, for spearheading this year's show. It wouldn't be possible without their time and dedication and we're sincerely appreciative for both!
Please help our Foothill community gather food & toiletries for the EFAA (Emergency Family Assistance Association).
The EFAA serves Boulder County residents. It’s main focus is on families, seniors and people with disabilities. The EFAA works with each family to help them meet critical immediate needs and access the resources they need for long-term success. It’s goal is for low-income families to find stability and elevate their life situation for themselves and their children.
We will gather food and toiletry donations until December 18, 2017. Donations may be placed in the bins by the office.
Food & Toiletries that the EFAA needs most :
The Foothill PTO Board recently partnered with Native Edge Landscapes as part of a broader, longer term program to beautify the Foothill Elementary school grounds. The first piece of this initiative has been completed and included cleaning up and installing edging, mulch and new plantings in the gardens near the front entrance to the school.
Over time the objective will be to clean up or install new landscaping in the other garden areas surrounding the building through Native Edge or other vendors, as well as through staff and parent volunteer efforts.
A great big thank you to Native Edge for joining us as a Community Partner for the 2017-18 school year at the Gold level. You can find out more about our Community Partner program, here.
Stop by the library thru Thursday, November 16th for our annual book fair. It’s like a bookstore, but better!
There are special, more affordable versions of books. For example, a hardcover might be $16.95 at a bookstore, but at the book fair the same book, in paperback, might be $3.95. There are also a variety of gift items.
Our teachers will have a chance to preview the books and create “wish lists” for their classroom libraries. Families can help build classroom libraries by purchasing books from these lists.
The book fair also helps Foothill earn funds to improve the school library!
VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED TO MAKE THE BOOKFAIR A SUCCESS
Background checks are not required to volunteer at this event. Please sign up here to volunteer for a shift or two. We especially need help covering 8-8:15 am every morning and also 3-4 pm each afternoon.

Do you walk, bike, carpool or ride the school bus or RTD to Foothill? If you answered yes, you could be earning Trip Tracker dollars!
BVSD Trip Tracker encourages and rewards students and families for using alternatives to single family car transportation to BVSD schools. The program goal is to significantly reduce car traffic and associated air pollution in front of schools thereby enhancing student safety and health. Students then receive Trip Tracker dollars that can be used like cash at over 50 local businesses.
Foothill students can participate by registering online and then download monthly calendars to keep track of their trips back and forth to school. At the end of the month, participating families receive an email for each registered student asking them to report their total number of trips for the month via a simple survey. Trip Tracker Dollars are then delivered to Foothill and distributed in Friday Folders each month.

A great big thank you to our friends at Casey Middle School who partnered with us for their annual Community Service Day to create an amazing educational mark at Foothill - an incredible map of the United States on the playground near the basketball courts.
Sarah Friend ran with Principal Schuba's map idea and most of the project in one, long day. Custodian Mr. Almir helped figure out the complex, eight-panel template which included a zillion little dots and our friends from Casey saw the vision and connected the dots to create our US outline. We couldn't have done it without them!
During the process, Principal Schuba dressed up in her USA costume to sing the 50 Nifty United States song repeatedly on the loud speaker. We're quite certain that the Casey students know all 50 states in alphabetical order in their sleep now!
We'd also like to send a shout out to Kyle Addington, our new BVSD social studies/health coordinator, who came to the rescue and purchased more brushes and paint in the moment. as well as to custodian Jenny for being on the clean up crew.
Boulder Payback Books will be going home in today's Friday Folders.
The Payback book was founded in 2001 on a simple two part philosophy:
It was also decided that Payback would give a generous 50% profit ($10 of the $21 purchase price) for every Payback book that a school sells….an unheard of concept in coupon book fundraising (other similar books start at a mere 20% profit).
It was this willingness to develop a true “50/50 partnership” with the local schools - while generating new customers for area merchants - that led to the success of the Payback book – and its place today as the favorite choice for Boulder County area families looking for new businesses to visit - and new ways to save money!
And now, with the successful launch of Payback Mobile, more and more families are enjoying great Payback savings - on their smartphones!
If you choose not to purchase the book, just return it to school in your child’s Friday Folder.
PLEASE return payment or the Boulder Payback Book no later than Friday, October 27th
