Foothill families, are you ready for Check-In Day?
The event formerly known as Meet the Teacher is in it's second year and the kick-off for the new academic year. The goal for Check In Day is for families to accomplish several tasks, in an efficient way, prior to the beginning of the year, while also decreasing the amount of class time disruptions. Join us on Tuesday, August 13th from 1-4 pm on the Foothill lawn for this event to take your student's school photo, preorder special 70th anniversary spirit wear, learn how you can raise money for Foothill easily, learn about volunteer opportunities, and meet your student's teacher. The Kona Ice and Sol Coffee trucks will also be on campus with concessions for purchase. Here's what you need to know:
Volunteers are necessary to make Check-In Day a success! Volunteers who sign up to assist with school photos will receive free photos for their students and those who volunteer at other stations will receive a free Kona Ice or coffee from Sol Coffee! Click here to assist with this year's event.

Our grocery giveback program allows Foothill families to raise significant funds for Foothill with no additional cost. By purchasing groceries or gas at King Soopers, they in turn donate 5% back to Foothill.
PLEASE NOTE: King Soopers has made changes to their program where obtaining a gift card from your PTO is no longer necessary, but instead, you'll simply need to register your King Soopers Plus Card (loyalty card) to benefit Foothill. HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: 1. Log into your King Soopers account online. 2. Click "Community Rewards" 3. Search for "Foothill" and select Foothill Elementary PTO in the search results. Click "Enroll" 4. Receive confirmation you're enrolled. Staff Appreciation Week is Foothill's PTO way of celebrating each and every one of our 60+ staff members that work daily within our building. Friday, May 3, 2019 5:30-7:30 p.m. Maker Faire is a celebration of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. It’s a place to show what we’ve made and to share what we’ve learned with others — a great match for our Foothill community. Our Maker Faire is a perfect combination of part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new. Exhibitors, or “makers,” are primarily students—either as individuals, clubs, classes or groups. And Maker Faire exhibits can be from any discipline — from science to art to gardening to engineering to craft. Not only will you be able to view student projects, but we'll also have food trucks to make sure you don't have to make dinner! BVSD will kick off its 11th annual Bike Week on Earth Day, April 22. During the Week of April 22-26, our goal is for more than 3,000 students, teachers and staff to sign up and pledge to bicycle, walk, skateboard, or scooter to school. Registered participants will be eligible for prize drawings of EcoVessel water bottles, bike bells, bike locks, and other cycling accessories. Please click here to register.
Registering helps BVSD when they write grants for bicycle education in PE classes, safety improvements around schools, bike racks and bike fix it stands, etc. The school with the highest percentage of registered participants will win a banner to hang in their school proclaiming them the champions of bike week! Bike trains led by parent volunteers will be leaving neighborhoods Wednesday morning and escorting students to school safely. Please see bike train departure locations below: DAKOTA RIDGE: Leave from little park at 7:30 a.m. FOOTHILLS PARK: Leave at 7:35 a.m. NORTH BOULDER PARK: Leave at 7:35 a.m. NORTH BOULDER REC CENTER: Leave at 7:35 a.m. We hope you will join us for Give to Grow, Foothill's annual capital campaign, at Rayback Collective on Thursday, April 4th at 6:30 p.m. that includes a silent auction. Join other parents in our Foothiill community as we learn how to help your child navigate the world of cellphones. Should you Wait Until 8th? Navigating the world of smart phones for middle school students - or even in elementary school - can be daunting. When do you give them a phone? Should it be a flip phone or smartphone? If it’s a smartphone, how can you manage it and help them navigate the world of gaming, social media and distractions. Thursday, March 21st 6-7 p.m. Foothill Library We'll see a short presentation about some of the research around teens and cell phones and share best practices. The presentation will be led by parent Debbie McCarthy. She has two older boys in high school, one who just graduated from Casey Middle School and one who is a senior and a daughter in 4th grade at Whittier Elementary. As they say “third times a charm” and she is hoping to get the cellphone process more productive for their third child, since she feels she made so many mistakes with the first two. Please RSVP below. Feel free to invite other parents who may be interested. We hope you'll join us at our Feed the Foxes dine out event NEXT WEEK at Wahoo's.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! There are 30 slots available for student talent. If your child is interested in participating, please register them at your earliest convenience to insure a spot is available for them. All acts need to be a maximum of 90 seconds. If you are utilizing recorded music and it is longer than 90 seconds, the music will automatically shut off after 90 seconds. Those performing without music must rehearse to make sure you are sticking to the time limit. NEW THIS YEAR: This year we are doing away with the “audition” day. At the dress rehearsal there will be a student-led Feedback Panel that will give constructive feedback to the acts prior to their performance the next day. 5th graders that would like to be an emcee, rather than performing, or are interested in participating on the Feedback Panel can sign up here. Here are the important dates you need to know: TODAY: Parents are able to register their student(s) to participate on Help at School February 21st: Student sign ups end. February 28th: Last day for parents to submit music files for their student's act (if required). March 7th: Talent Show dress rehearsal, 3-5:30 p.m. March 8th: Talent Show, 1 -2:30 p.m. Parents, we need volunteers to have the talent show be a success! Please volunteer your time and talents to make this Foothill tradition a continued success. A BIG thank you to Talent Show co-chairs Shari Polis and Donna Wynn for organizing this year's event. |
