The 2017 5th grade graduation gift is a beautification project for the outdoor learning center in the Foothill courtyard. This year, a local artist painted the courtyard wall and colorful tables were placed outside for 3rd - 5th graders to enjoy their lunch outdoors. Parents, staff and students worked together to build a raised flower bed and plant flowers selected for seasonal beauty and interest. In addition to improving the courtyard environment, the new garden space creates an opportunity for students to participate in the creation and maintenance of a garden. The 5th grade class created a dedication for the garden: "You'll have a good year full of Foothill cheer because life is good in the Foothill 'hood" A great big thank you to so many that helped, including Erin Westfall, Patrick Westfall, CJ Davis, Paul Hourihan, Josh Feister, Almir Omervic and Tessa Hale. This project would not have been possible without donations from Home Depot and Lee Hill Peat.

A huge thank you to our Foothill families for so enthusiastically participating in our first Maker Faire! The evening event was very well attended and a great celebration of our Foothill community. We look forward to making this an annual tradition! We had over 100 amazing projects that showed true innovation, creativity, teamwork and perseverance. Students and families interacted with robots galore, new food inventions, art, alternative energy solutions, games, a community Creation Station and competed in a timed Box Build Challenge. The Foothill Elementary PTO was thrilled to be a part of this event, providing funds that allowed a core group of approximately 30 students to directly participate in the Maker Faire that they might otherwise not have been able to. We'd also like to extend a huge thank you to TAG advisor Sarah Weisman, the Maker Faire coordinators, Mr. Warshaw and parents Dana James and Margo Mull, and amazing parent volunteers for sharing their time, knowledge and creativity with the Foothill community. You are so appreciated!
Shari Polis, Foothill mother and professional dancer, donated countless hours of her time to provide every Foothill student two dance classes during regular P.E. this year.
Shari taught the choreography to two hip hop dances (among which, ‘My Shot’ from Hamilton) and performed the dances for their teacher. The students also had the chance to show off their free-style moves in a circle. This program was a smashing hit with our students and we are honored that Shari shared her talent and passion for dance with our school. Shari studied at the University of Michigan and then headed to New York where she starred in off Broadway shows, ran a children’s dance company for 12 years, and started a Performing Arts program at a Brooklyn school which produced 17 full stage musicals. You can see Shari dancing on tv now in national Honey Nuts Cheerios Commercial #behearthealthy. She is currently teaching at the Boulder JCC and around town. |
