Did you know that our school donates lost and found items at the end of each month?! Our newest fundraiser with Mabel's Labels is a win/win as your student's stuff will stay out of lost and found and you'll be raising money for Foothill at the same time!
Mabel’s Labels are personalized, peel & stick, super-durable labels that safely go in the laundry, dishwasher and microwave. They’re loved by parents & kids alike. And they’re perfect for all your kids’ stuff – from shoes and clothes to water bottles, lunch boxes, backpacks and more!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mabel's Labels as a parent and a teacher. I put them on all of our lunch containers, water bottles and lunch boxes. The same labels have been on our stainless steel containers (which have been through the dishwasher a zillion times) since my daughter started Boulder Journey School 8 years ago! We also put them on jackets and hats!
As a teacher I can't tell you how many containers I have held up at the end of the day and no one notices that it is their container. Don't get me started on the one black glove or black snow pants....

Did you know that Colorado ranks in the lower third among the states in public-school spending per pupil? Say what?! That’s right, we are number 39 nationally among the 50 states in public school per pupil spending!
How can we begin to make up for the shortfall that isn’t provided by the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD), state, and federal sources? That’s where Foothill Elementary PTO’s Fund the Fox campaign comes in. The program provides critical funding for the staffing and resources that help to make our school the healthy and safe place for learning that we know it to be.
In order to meet the budgetary goals of the school, provide necessary personnel to support our students, and to equip our teachers with what is needed to run their classrooms, the Foothill PTO is asking for a suggested donation of $275 per student. However, contributing to Fund the Fox is voluntary. Please give at a level that is appropriate for your family. No donation is too big or too small! Our goal is to achieve 100% participation from all Foothill families. Click here to view this year's PTO budget.
Funds raised through our annual Fund the Fox campaign will support:
This is our chance to come together as a community to give our staff and students the resources they need to be successful teachers and learners.
Families who contribute to Fund the Fox by September 30, 2018 will receive a limited edition Foothill Fox tote bag. (One tote bag per family.) Our preference is to receive contributions online. If you choose to submit cash or check, please deliver in a marked envelope to the Foothill office. Checks should be made out to “Foothill PTO” with Fund the Fox in the memo. The Foothill Elementary PTO is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible.
Every year matching gifts from employers provide thousands of dollars to Fund the Fox. Please send any and all matching paperwork you receive to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The beginning of a new school year means meeting new families in our Foothill community. Come and meet other parents of your child’s grade for a fun night of adult socializing! Click on your specific grade’s link to view party location, RSVP and food/beverage sign-up, if necessary!
We're so excited to see how many families have RSVP'd for our Back to School Picnic, THIS Friday, August 24th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the school lawn. If you haven't already, please RSVP so that we can have a good headcount to share with the food trucks who will be on site. If you do not have a Facebook account, you can simply e-mail with the number of people from your household who plan to attend.
Rain or shine, plan to join fellow classmates, parents, teachers and staff for our annual back to school party! We'll have food trucks, music and games. Bring a picnic or grab dinner and treats at one of the local food trucks and come join the fun. There will also be some water activities, so bring a change of clothes if your children would like to participate. Feel free to bring your blankets and lawn chairs, too!
For this year's Back to School Picnic to be a success, we still need a few volunteers! Can you volunteer to take photographs, help sell spirit wear or help clean up afterwards? We'd love for you to lend your time and talent!
Have You Heard About Check-In Day?
The event, formerly known as Meet the Teacher, is new this year and ready to become a Foothill tradition at the start of each new academic year. Scheduled for Tuesday, August 14th from 1-4 p.m., the goal for Check In Day is for families to accomplish several tasks, in an efficient way, prior to the beginning of the academic year, while also decreasing the amount of class time disruptions.
When families arrive at Check-In Day, you'll head to the Check-In Station to receive your checklist. You'll then be able to visit each of the five stations:
For this year's inaugural event, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Can you volunteer an hour of your time at one of the check-in stations or be a friendly face while handing out popsicles? Please click here to volunteer your time and talent.
Questions? We love to help! Simply e-mail with any questions about Check-In Day or anything else Foothill related you might have.
Just because summer break is around the corner doesn’t mean that learning has to stop! All incoming 1st-5th graders are invited to join us for our summer Fox Book Swaps! Interested in picking up a new book to enjoy over the summer? Share a favorite book? Participate in a fun book exchange with other Foxes? That’s what it’s all about!
Students should choose one book that they have read and loved, and that they are ready to find a new home for (library books cannot be used for the book exchange – the books must belong to the student and be lent out with parent permission). The goal of our exchange is to end up with books that we’ll love – so readers should bring a book that they think their classmates will enjoy.
A great BIG thank you to Mr. Warshaw and Ms. Hoskins for this awesome idea and for helping to organize. So appreciate their support!
Fox Book Swaps will be held on June 12th, July 17th and August 7th on the Foothill front lawn from 3-3:30 p.m. and all students should be accompanied by an adult.
Questions? E-mail email@example.com.
Mr. E and Mrs. O would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Amy and Randy MacIntosh for bringing the music of Zimbabwe to our students at Foothill. Kutandara Center was founded in 1999 by Amy and Randy and they have been parents in our Foothill community since their daughter Eliza began kindergarten five years ago. Amy and Randy taught all classes kindergarten through fifth grade for six days giving each class the opportunity to learn and play the marimba and mbira. The six full days of instruction were a gift to our Foothill community and we are grateful for their donation of time and energy to help our students understand the importance of learning music from Zimbabwe.
If you are interested in taking classes and learning the music of Zimbabwe for yourself please visit www.kutandara.org.
What if we told you that you could win a four night trip to an amazing ranch in Wyoming for only $25? It's true!

What is the Heads or Tails auction game?
The winner of the Heads or Tails game will receive a 4 night stay at the A Bar A Ranch! Along the banks of the North Platte River, in the heart of southern Wyoming’s Medicine Bow Mountains, lies the A Bar A Ranch. Established in 1922, it is one of the oldest guest ranches in the country. It is also one of the largest, with nearly 100,000 acres for guests and staff to explore. This is a magical place, where generations of families and friends create summer memories together.

Shari Polis came in to all Kindergarten-5th grade PE classes this month to teach dance as part of Fitness February. Shari taught a hip hop dance mix, “Basketball,” to the school. Ask your kids to show you the hip hop moves they learned in dance (“top rocks,” “six step”)! Everyone performed the dance at the talent show earlier this month. Both videos shown are of one of the third grade classes during their class.
It was a fun week of dance in PE! A big thank you Shari and to Mr. B, who especially loved the dance as basketball is his favorite sport!
The Foothill Elementary PTO welcomes all Foothill parents, students and staff to contribute their thoughts and ideas to our blog.
