Join other parents in our Foothiill community as we learn how to help your child navigate the world of cellphones.
Should you Wait Until 8th? Navigating the world of smart phones for middle school students - or even in elementary school - can be daunting. When do you give them a phone? Should it be a flip phone or smartphone? If it’s a smartphone, how can you manage it and help them navigate the world of gaming, social media and distractions.
Thursday, March 21st
We'll see a short presentation about some of the research around teens and cell phones and share best practices.
The presentation will be led by parent Debbie McCarthy. She has two older boys in high school, one who just graduated from Casey Middle School and one who is a senior and a daughter in 4th grade at Whittier Elementary. As they say “third times a charm” and she is hoping to get the cellphone process more productive for their third child, since she feels she made so many mistakes with the first two.
Please RSVP below. Feel free to invite other parents who may be interested.
We hope you'll join us at our Feed the Foxes dine out event NEXT WEEK at Wahoo's.
Tuesday, March 5th - 4p to close

Please mention that you are there to support Foothill and 50% of your check total will be donated to our school.

Maker Faire is a celebration of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. It’s a place to show what we’ve made and to share what we’ve learned with others — a great match for our Foothill community.
Our Maker Faire is a perfect combination of part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new. Exhibitors, or “makers,” are primarily students—either as individuals, clubs, classes or groups. And Maker Faire exhibits can be from any discipline — from science to art to gardening to engineering to craft.
To make this year's Maker Faire a success, we need your help! Click here to see how you can volunteer your time and talents.

We are excited to announce the 2019 Foothill Foxes Follies talent show is scheduled for March 8th at 1 p.m. We can’t wait for a great showcase of our Foothill Foxes and hope that all participants build confidence, have fun and work as a team to put on a great show!
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! There are 30 slots available for student talent. If your child is interested in participating, please register them at your earliest convenience to insure a spot is available for them.
All acts need to be a maximum of 90 seconds. If you are utilizing recorded music and it is longer than 90 seconds, the music will automatically shut off after 90 seconds. Those performing without music must rehearse to make sure you are sticking to the time limit.
NEW THIS YEAR: This year we are doing away with the “audition” day. At the dress rehearsal there will be a student-led Feedback Panel that will give constructive feedback to the acts prior to their performance the next day. 5th graders that would like to be an emcee, rather than performing, or are interested in participating on the Feedback Panel can sign up here.
Here are the important dates you need to know:
TODAY: Parents are able to register their student(s) to participate on Help at School
February 21st: Student sign ups end.
February 28th: Last day for parents to submit music files for their student's act (if required).
March 7th: Talent Show dress rehearsal, 3-5:30 p.m.
March 8th: Talent Show, 1 -2:30 p.m.
Parents, we need volunteers to have the talent show be a success! Please volunteer your time and talents to make this Foothill tradition a continued success.
A BIG thank you to Talent Show co-chairs Shari Polis and Donna Wynn for organizing this year's event.
Please join us for our second Foothill Town Hall, Thursday, February 14th from 8:30-9:30a in the cafeteria.
What's a Town Hall? We're glad you asked! One of the things that makes Foothill special is our sense of community. On the second Thursday of each month, your Foothill PTO will host this event as a chance to come together, ask questions and simply get to know other Foothill families.
This is also an opportunity for an open Q&A opportunity with Mr. Vanderpol. An informal discussion featuring any questions or comments you might have.
This is also a great opportunity to meet other parents within the community and say Happy New Year to those that you are already familiar with.
And, of course, THERE WILL BE COFFEE!
We hope you'll join us at our Feed the Foxes dine out event NEXT WEEK at Mod Market.

Please save the date for our 2019 Give to Grow event! This year it will be held at Rayback Collective on Thursday, April 4th at 6:30 p.m.
WHAT IS GIVE TO GROW?
Give to Grow is a capital campaign with the purpose of providing one-time money for school initiatives that strategically work toward our shared vision and goals. Our vision states: At Foothill Elementary, we are committed to creating an engaging environment that nurtures the whole child. Our interdisciplinary approaches to learning are inquiry-based, student-centered and collaborative. We challenge all learners through differentiation and measure their success in multiple ways to truly reflect their individual growth and progress.
The Give to Grow initiative is not intended to replace Fund the Fox, and is distinctly different in that it targets specific, innovative improvements at Foothill Elementary. Based on input from Foothill staff, parents and students, money raised for this year's Give to Grow campaign will go towards experiential learning opportunities and innovative furniture.
We are in the initial stages of collecting donation items for the auction from local businesses. If you have a local business or have a connection to a local business, we would love your support.
Do you have a special talent? We are looking for people to host experiential events to auction off (e.g. wine/beer tasting, cocktail making night, cooking class, jewelry making, knitting, informational learning classes etc.)
Do you personally have items that you would be willing to donate? (e.g. vacation rentals, season sports tickets, massage, acupuncture, interior design etc…)
Please contact Alexis Schwartz at email@example.com if you are able to donate to our event or if you have any questions.
Your Foothill PTO is very excited to be offering a new program in conjunction with Crayola. It’s called Crayola ColorCycle– an amazing program devised to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills!
The ColorCycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013, and uses the most advanced plastic conversion technologies available today to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles.
Last week, each classroom at Foothill began collecting used markers that would otherwise be discarded. You can support this effort at home by sending any used markers you may have around the house- even non-Crayola brands! - to school with your child to deposit in their classroom bin. Highlighters and dry erase markers will also be collected.
Thank you in advance for your support and participation! With the help of families like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can continue to keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.
The Foothill Elementary PTO welcomes all Foothill parents, students and staff to contribute their thoughts and ideas to our blog.
