FOOTHILL LITERACY VOLUNTEER NEEDED

Jonathan Warshaw - our Media Specialist - has less aide time than he used to - so he needs HELP!  Parents (or maybe Grandparents) can come in for as little as 15 minutes or stay for a few hours.  The main job he needs help with is check in and shelving books.  If you come during your child's library time they can help the kids check out books.  He also needs some help with some cataloguing - so if you're interested in doing this - just make a comment in the 'comment space below'.  It is super easy and he is super nice to work with.

To sign up and make a difference -

MANDATORY BACKGROUND SCREENING

All regularly scheduled parent volunteers must complete the BVSD volunteer background screening program, and receive screening approval by email, before volunteering.

These volunteers include, but are not limited to, those who help in the following activities.

  • Volunteers with a regular schedule in the school (classroom, health room, playground, cafeteria, library, greeters).
  • Activity/Club mentor, volunteer or chaperone.
  • TAG (Talented and Gifted) mentor, volunteer or chaperone.  Overnight trip chaperone.
  • At-Home (Student Contact) (ex. host of team dinner, building parade float).
  • Volunteer coach (interscholastic or intramural).  Volunteer attending field trip.

Occasional Volunteers will not be required to complete the online background screening program.  The school staff will conduct a minimal background screening for those individuals as appropriate.

This category includes, but is not limited to, those who help in the following activities:

  • Occasional volunteer (ex. classroom party, school/community event), School-sponsired events (ex. career fairs, book fairs, after-prom, science fairs, school dances, guest speakers, field day, registrations).
  • Projects with little or incidental contact w/students (ex. fundraisers, boosters, concession stands, scorekeepers).   School Accountability Committees/School Improvement Teams, the District Accountability Committee, District Parent Council, PTOs, PTAs, and PEN participants.  Crossing guard.

The cost of the regular background screening is $16.  If a volunteer will be driving students, the background screening cost is $22.50.  It's a quick and easy application to complete but it can take 2-10 days to be processed and for the applicant and school to receive the screening approval confirmation
